Re: I like tad but he's been a dissapointment .. I was in the pit and saw us
I wouldn't call the win over UNLV to be Tad's greatest moment. I would say that winning the Pac12 tourney was better. Had we not made a run to win the Pac 12 tourney, we might not have gotten into the NCAA's. I also contend getting at large births are more significant than 1 win in the tourney that was predicated by a PAC12 Tourney title.

Big Valley High School, Bieber, CA
Home of Dan Hawkins.

(Sorry if mentioning Hawkins causes headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or heart palpitations).

We missed on a few as well. John and Doug Cline(sp) come to mind. John went to Neb./Az St. Doug went to UCLA.

Nuggets best hope may be Mudiay and Hibbert.
They simply cannot defend front court or backcourt with Plumlee, Jokic, Nelson and Murray. Skal Labiesiere looked like a player last night and Cauley Stein was unstoppable. Can anyone (rhetorical) on this team defend except for Harris? I miss Turkic already. Can Mudiay overcome TOs and defensive lapses? can Hibbert provide a post presence? Nuggets faithful must hope so because no one else gives them any hope of stopping anyone. I am so depressed.
On the bright side at least eight teams are in position to pass the Nuggs in the standings and a little tanking might give Denver a top six pick. If they can't get one of the top PGs maybe Jon Isaac, Jason Tatum or failing that, Harry Giles (Kmart played a long time on rickety knees) or Robert Williams..

How are we going to score next year? I haven't seen an impact
freshman in this program for years, so that option is out imo. Maybe the kid transferring in is a scorer but we better play some amazing D or we will get our doors blown off.

Beat unlv in the tourney.. didn't know that would be his greatest moment and it has been by far.. no excuses .. too much money $$ to not produce ..he's been here longer than macintyre and we win the south last year.. I see tad having problems if we don't make significant improvements . I believe rg has an idea about where cu bball should be and this isn't it. Just my opinion and I don't know anything on the inside .. and the culture on these recent teams have been horrible,.

Really like your comments, especially those about the players not improving. Thanks for taking the time to make your points. This team is so disappointing to me that if it were not for Derrick White's stellar play, I wouldn't bother to go.

He has some nice parts of his game. Concussion has set him back.
Just not getting much floor time. Peters has passed him up and guard is a bit crowded. But he can play some D and his 3-ball was good early on (less so lately).

Peters has much more upside IMO. With Namon Wright coming on next year, I don't see a whole lot of change in PT for Brown.

Boulder High's run in the 1960s was remarkable
Hale, Dick and Bobby in a short span. Amazing. Phil Irwin (cover of SI vs. Penn State) too, and the late John Cosgrove.

And later the McCartys, Heath Irwin and Elton Davis, among numerous others.

I guess I would qualify what I wrote above by saying that since Pomona opened its doors a few years after Bobby Anderson left CU, Pomona has to be at or near the top for producing quality players for CU.

Now THAT I agree with
Just watch the demeanor of the guys who have been suspended. XJ and Wes joking around at Cal, last night Peters was more interested in the team manager than what was happening on the floor.

Tad can yell and scream all he wants, but if a guy just wants to "move on to the next step in life", there's not much he can do about it. Wes, XJ and Fortune have flat-out wasted their senior years.

Makes you miss the Hell out of Josh Scott.

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. I get that TV is king, but that shows no respect to the local fan base.

To your other points, I believe next year's team will be better than people project. If you don't think a couple impact freshmen can turn a team around, see UCLA.
Namon Wright is a solid transfer and guys like Miller, Peters, Siewert, etc. are showing improvement.

Here's what we don't know
What did Tumpkin tell Mac and possibly George when he was confronted with allegations?

Did Mac and George have any concrete knowledge of abuse when they elevated JT to Def. Coordinator(that's what they did, don't get caught up in schematics..he was DC for that game)?

The reason this is still a story is that CU hasn't been totally transparent. By not being 100% transparent, all the statements released by DiStephano, MM and George have only fueled the fire. Until CU answers all questions, they look like they're hiding something.

So the question still remains, did CU "elevate" Tumpkin despite knowing or having a pretty good idea that the accusations were true. Until that question is answered the story will have traction.

If Tumpkin assured them they were false, then MM and George are on solid ground. If they knew the allegations were true, then they elevated a chronic abuser because they put the best interests of the football program ahead of what's morally right.

One more thing, I think CU handled this horribly. It began with woman calling Mac just wanting Tumpkin to get help. Now we are where we are because of how CU handled it. This woman felt threatened once that lawyer got involved and that escalated this whole mess. I don't know what the IOIC would have done differently but CU's cold and threatening response forced this woman's hand.

No, I'm in the "You Don't Need a New Coach To Do Better" Crowd
Tad has taken the program to unprecedented levels. He has established a new threshold for success. He has leveraged that success to bring in the best recruiting class that I can remember.

Based on his unrivaled success, I believe he's earned a shot to take the program to the next level. For those who say he's had long enough, I will again point about half a mile to the North of the CEC where people have been a lot more patient with a whole lot less success.

Hey, it's easy to blame a coach. It's easy to fire him. It's a lot harder to find someone who can take a program like Colorado's to the next level. And I also believe the players deserve a share of the blame...the seniors in particular have let Tad and the program down big time.

Too soon for a change, IMO, but not too soon for RG to get involved.
I really believe Tad deserves a chance to turn this around, but it won't happen by magic. Tad doesn't have the current pieces in place to take the program to the next level. It's more than just better players.

In the business world (which I've been a part of for decades), when an employee is underperforming the boss steps in and builds an improvement plan. (This assumes the employee is not a hopeless case. Tad is clearly not!) You talk through specific actions to take to turn the thing around. Rick George needs to do that immediately, in my view.

In Tad's case I think it comes down to two things: Head coaching strategy, and player development. Tad is behind his peers in those two areas, and if he can't solve both then he'll be gone within 2-3 years, which is no good for anyone.

Re: 4 Dances in 7 years. Before Tad, 4 Dances in 50 years.
You pose a fair question - why the patience in football and not basketball? For me, I could see marginal improvement under MM and thought he needed time. I don't see marginal improvement under Boyle, I see the opposite. This team looks worse than some previous teams. But it is true that the next recruiting class looks good and that means something. And it's also true that a program's success is not always linear, I guess.

As for the "haven't gotten past the first round" crowd, I'm not in that camp. I just don't view things that way. Mack Brown never won the big one until he did etc... Things haven't happened until they do.

But I don't like the argument that says, "he's better than this school did in the past". To me, that's what we do to ourselves when we're selling ourselves short. The Duke alum want Brad Stevens to replace K when he's done, and they expect to get him. Well why shouldn't we expect that? Boulder can attract a great coach and in basketball that really matters. You don't think RG could do better if he went on the prowl for a new coach?

I really wish Boyle had capitalized on the momentum he built a few years ago. It seems to have fizzled. I wonder if he can get it back.

Regardless, he's certainly not terrible by any means and for that reason, I may be wrong. It's a tough call and I wish at this point that it wasn't.

Felt the same way as you before last night
After last nights lose my thinking has started to change.

1. A losing conference record is assured for the 2nd time in 3 years. At this point I will predict next years team will make it 3 losing years in 4. Can't imagine this program getting better without Derrick White.

1a) The bottom 1/2 of the PAC is bad, Ricardo's teams would have won 5-7 conference games most years.

2) As I look down the bench I see more role players year after year. Tads teams seem to rely on 1-2 guys to carry the offensive load...... Dinwidie(sp), Scott, White.......who is that guy going forward? King, Collier, Peters, Wright, The unseen Freshman?

3) From TV the arena looks 1/2 full. Not sure what the box score attendance figure will be, but it looks like "excitement" has been sucked out of the program.

Boyle deserves another year because of your stated reasons, but for the first time I feel the clock ticking on his tenure, and ticking fast at that.

I have no problem calling out players for lack of effort
I get the point about skills development, but you know better than I that defense and rebounding is about effort. I've seen defensive intensity from this team before (WSU is a great example), so I know it's in them.

Problem is, you have a bunch of seniors (Derrick the obvious exception) who, instead of showing leadership and playing like it's their final few collegiate games, are just playing out the string.

Tad said last night he laid into the team harder than he had since his UNC days. Problem is, if 5th-year seniors require coaches to motivate them at this point, something's woefully wrong...with THEM.

4 Dances in 7 years. Before Tad, 4 Dances in 50 years.
Look, I get frustrated with Tad as much as the next guy, but he has taken this program to levels we haven't seen in half a century. (Cue up the "We haven't gotten past the first round" crowd.) But if you followed CU bball as long as I have, you know that an invite to the Dance was a laughable goal for most of the previous three decades.

I don't understand why we're tolerant of football where we go 10 years without a winning record, but miss the Tourney one year and we're ready to sack the basketball coach.

I would feel better about the future if we made a coaching change.
Let me first say that I don't follow the team that closely except enough to know that we're not good again.

I've been to several Duke and North Carolina games this year and I have to think that if either of those schools had a defensive-minded coach, this wouldn't be the headline on the local paper this late in the season, especially with a team with so much experience. Heck we play 19 players a game and each have played a ton of basketball.

I wouldn't be too surprised if RG made a change at head coach. I know that most here are going to disagree but just hear me out for a minute, after all my opinion can't hurt. I think Boyle is good enough and satisfies those CU alum and fans who think we just can't do better. They are people who are used to our program being fairly crappy in comparison to the schools that are traditionally good. But RG wants to change the culture and to do that you have to first expect more. And let's be honest, Boyle isn't ever going to win the NCAA or anything. So why not try to raise the bar?

Thoughts? I could be wrong and I'm completely willing to listen to any reasonable opposition.

That is going to be the multi million dollar question in the next few days
I have seen everything from 4.5 to 4.74 40 time posted for the Stanford RB. One wag on the radio called him Reggie Bush without the speed (4.33).

4.4-mid first round?
4.5 late first round/early second?
Anything higher than that and who knows?

The other issue he will face is how do you use him. Is he an every down back or more of a third down/slot receiver guy? Belichek would probably make him all pro, others might try to put a round peg in a square hole.

The one thing you know is he going to be on special teams, at least in the beginning.

One of the most frustrating things about Gordon is he picks up
so many useless ticky tack bad fouls that he is in constant foul trouble it seems. Not good for a 5th year senior who should have it figured out by now and who is not naturally aggressive anyway. This just fuels a passive style of play and any flow in the game is constanty interrupted by stints on the bench.
